Green Bean Casserole (from scratch)
Crisp-tender beans with real mushroom sauce and crunchy onions.
Ingredients
- 1 lb green beans, trimmed and halved
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
- Salt & pepper
Instructions
- Blanch beans in salted boiling water 4 minutes; shock in ice water and drain.
- Sauté mushrooms in butter; sprinkle flour and cook 1 minute.
- Whisk in milk and broth; simmer to thicken. Season with salt & pepper.
- Combine beans with sauce in baking dish; top with fried onions; bake 20–25 minutes at 375°F.
